Over the past four years Akona Limited has successfully trained and qualified service personnel for Overhead Lines Construction and these individuals have been positioned into many NEP projects across England and Scotland.
Concepts has provided the GWEP (NEP) project with 25 former services personnel. In all cases these individuals have been placed onto the GWEP project after leaving the Armed forces. The programme has required Concepts to select suitable individuals from our Railway Engineering Overhead Lines resettlement courses, who have the aptitude and background for field engineering roles.
To date the programme has proved to be very successful. Concepts has managed and sponsored the learners whilst Amey senior engineering staff have provided mentorship over a probationary period to them. Inabensa have utilized both the training facilities and services provided by Akona, plus the sub-contracting of Overhead Line Electrification staff from Akona Concepts. On the training aspect, this has involved the training of our own internal staff for various OLEC (Overhead Lines Construction and health & safety courses) and Akona Concepts the sister company of Akona, has been able to provide Inabensa with Overhead linesmen engineers to carry out construction tasks on the Great Western Project (GWEP).
From a resource perspective, we have been able to access a very efficient and effective OLE engineering workforce from Akona and in many cases these engineers have been former military personnel from the Armed Forces resettlement programme. From Inabensa point of view, Akona’s former military staff have adapted and applied themselves in a professional manner working alongside our current engineering workforce on the project.
