About Us

The word Akona means in Maori 'To Learn'. 
 
Akona was established in 2005 by the current owners and Directors Steve and Gaynor Ashley. The company provides high quality training and development courses and nationally recognised qualifications for a number of industry sectors.
 
These sectors include, Events Management, Security, Close Protection Railway Engineering specialising in Overhead Electrification OLE and finally Training and Development qualifications for those interested in teaching in any of the above sectors.
 
Since 2005 the company has achieved a number of milestones whilst providing accredited and non accredited vocational training solutions for learners in the UK and internationally.
 
An approved training provider for Career Transition Partnership (CTP) and for the National Skills Academy Railway Engineering (NSARE). The association with both CTP and NSARE has allowed Akona to provide training and career pathways for many of our learners that are either seeking a second career after leaving the Armed forces and for those learners in the commercial sectors looking at continuous professional development or career opportunities in industry sectors.

2005 - 2009: Wembley National Stadium approved training provider
 
2006 - Current date: providing event management delivering Level 2 to 4 Spectator Safety and Management qualifications for Chelsea and Fulham Football Clubs
 
2010 - Current date: The Oval Cricket Ground training provider for the delivery event management training
 
2010 - Award the 'Workplace' contract in partnership with Wembley Stadium to provide a number of Olympic Boroughs with security and event management 
 
2010 - 2011: Providing international Event Management training and qualifications for Sports Club Corinthians Sao Paulo, Brazil
 
2011 - Selected to provide event and security training for the 'World Skills London' event 2011.
 
2012 - providing event management training for a number of 2012 Event Management companies
 
2012 - Current date: NSARE approved and delivering OLE engineering qualifications for railway engineering companies

Akona Learning Method: Strength in Depth Akona is a training solutions company specializing in the design, delivery and accreditation of bespoke vocational training packages.
 
Our training is delivered through e-learning, home study programs, classroom teaching and work experience. Utilising the combination of interactive and theory based learning has lead to some of the highest pass rates in the industry.
 
Our training products and services are geared toward personnel in the football and security industry, and can be customised to suit individual corporate needs, while maintaining the standards required for national accreditation.
 
Please note: Akona does not operate in conjunction with any other training provider and does not provide courses on their behalf. We only provide training for those learners who have booked directly with and paid Akona for courses and we do not accept bookings from third parties.
