Overview of the Course
The Morris Line Switch System course is designed to provide a blended learning programme that addresses the key fundamental technical and functional aspects of the switch system. This course is directed towards competent staff that undertake installation or maintenance of railway engineering activities. The course syllabus aims to raise individual standards and awareness of methodologies around the switch system. This includes the installation process, the setting up and maintenance of the MLE component parts of the unit.

Course content
Review of design drawing, installation of the disconnector, convertor, motor drive mechanism and the pear drive, key functional checks both mechanical and electrical, hand back process and procedures
Assessment methods
Classroom and practical installation and maintenance sessions
Qualification obtained
Level 3 award in the installation and maintenance of the MLE Switch System
Completion of the course
Learners that successfully complete the course will be awarded a bespoke customised Level 3 award in the installation and maintenance of the MLE Switch System. This qualification is issued by ETA, a nationally recognised educational Awarding Body which quality assures this training product.
Quality control of installation process
The issuing of this Level 3 award will in turn register the individual onto a tracking matrix of the competency award. This concept and approach will provide the principal provider with the following assurances:
- All MLE qualified installers/maintainers will be placed on a data base for internal and external quality purposes.
- The issued certificate provides a bar code for scanning of trained and qualified staff.
- All staff reporting to work sites can be verified prior to work commencing.
- Installation activities will be recorded and documented using the issued ITP form.
- Standards around the installation will be raised and more accountability can be placed on the OLE installers.
