Personal Track Safety AC (PTS AC)

Overview of the Course

The PTS course is comprised of two components. There is an e-learning training package followed by a theory and practical training day. This practical training module is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking Personal Track Safety training as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure.

Course content

At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:

  • Recall the local health and safety arrangements of the training location
  • Analyse the responsibilities of a PTS competence holder when walking or working on the infrastructure
  • Examine how an individual holding the PTS competence can deal with emergency situations on the railway
  • Identify the key elements of safety critical communications within the railway environment
  • Demonstrate making an emergency phone call
  • Demonstrate walking safely whilst on or near the line

COURSE DELIVERY MODEL

E-Learning study prior to the practical session and classroom & practical sessions. Written Knowledge assessments will be undertaken which will determine whether the competency should be awarded.


 

Pre-Requisites & Requirements

  • Must be a minimum age of 16
  • Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements
  • Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/00120 (Drugs & Alcohol)
  • (Industry only) – A drugs and alcohol test must have been carried out no more than 3 months prior to attending a PTS initial training event
  • Must have successfully completed the e-learning training and assessment prior to attendanceMust have sufficient command of English language, and of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety)

Completion of the course

  • Your sentinel card will be updated with PTS AC on successful completion of the course
  • Your sponsor can now order your card and this will take approximately 5 working days to arrive
  • You will be issued with a work experience logbook which will be used to record your on-track experience, this will help your sponsor to determine when you no longer need learner support. Whilst on learning support a blue helmet will be worn, once signed off a white helmet will be worn
  • You will need to recert this course every 2 years
