Elizabeth Line – 2018 to Present

The client

In 2018, Akona was commissioned by ATC (a joint venture of Alstom, TSO, and Costain) to design and deliver a comprehensive maintenance training programme to support the transition of the Crossrail project to Transport for London. This legacy training programme equips Rail for London Infrastructure (RFLI) engineers, technicians, and apprentices with the technical knowledge required to effectively maintain and operate the advanced Overhead Line Equipment (OHLE) system implemented on the Elizabeth Line.

The success of this initial programme led to Akona being selected as the approved training provider for RFLI. Our expanded responsibilities include:

  • Refining the Elizabeth Line OHLE Operational Manual.
  • Developing maintenance standards, training materials, and assessment processes for critical operations, including reconstruction following de-wirement and other key technical components.
  • Delivering tailored training and assessments to sustain and enhance operational competencies.

Through this initiative, Akona has played a vital role in ensuring RFLI personnel are fully equipped to maintain the Elizabeth Line’s critical infrastructure to the highest standards, supporting its long-term operational excellence.
