The client
Akona Concepts were instrumental in the delivery of both projects, providing engineering assurance, project management and construction delivery. The delivery of these two key sites enabled the blockade and redevelopment of Liverpool Lime Street to proceed. Additionally, Akona Ltd provided specialist training to our engineers, supervisors and linesman prior to carrying out high risk work on the St Helens Jacque Galland section insulator installation.
Both projects required intensive integration with the track and civils teams to ensure all programmes were successfully met. We provided management services to procure all materials within a very tight timescale. Throughout the Huyton to Roby construction our engineers dealt directly with design to overcome all obstacles encountered to ensure the programme remained on target and budget
The task
As part of the broader Liverpool Lime Street Remodelling Project, both H2R and St Helens played critical roles as key enablers, facilitating turnback services for train operators during the station closure blockade. These services were essential in supporting the extensive modification works undertaken at the station.
The solution
Akona successfully managed and delivered the electrification works for the crossover at St Helens Central Station and the wiring of the fourth line between Huyton and Roby. Running concurrently, both projects demanded precise coordination and the deployment of multiple delivery teams to meet challenging timeframes.
The result
Both projects were successfully completed and commissioned, these works were integral to supporting the wider Liverpool Lime Street Remodelling Project, showcasing Akona’s ability to manage complex, high-pressure projects.
Summary
Both projects combined:
18 New OLE Structures
Installation of OLE wires 3000m
Extensive wire modifications
Switching installation
Installation of first twin contact Jacque Galland Section Insulator in the UK
