Akona Concepts were tasked to support the engineering and design project teams with suitable junior and assistant engineers, along with site and CAD resources to enable designs to be fitted in line with the demands of a 7-day construction operation. Our senior engineering team supported the programme by mentoring and developing individuals throughout, providing our client AMEY with a ‘whole package’ approach.
In addition, Akona Concepts also provided various OLE construction teams that included OLE supervisors, OLE engineers, SWL and OLEC (2/3) linesmen. These teams supported activities such as the installation of main steel, SPS, in – span and final registration. The project teams succeeded in many milestones by achieving timelines, workforce requirements and set budget objectives.
Akona Concepts were instrumental in the delivery of both projects, providing engineering assurance, project management and construction delivery. The delivery of these two key sites enabled the blockade and redevelopment of Liverpool Lime Street to proceed. Additionally, Akona Ltd provided specialist training to our engineers, supervisors and linesman prior to carrying out high risk work on the St Helens Jacque Galland section insulator installation.
Both project required intensive integration with the track and civils teams to ensure all programmes were successfully met. We provided management services to procure all materials within a very tight timescale. Throughout the Huyton to Roby construction our engineers dealt directly with Andromeda design to overcome all obstacles encountered to ensure the programme remained on target and budget
We provided multiple OLE construction management and delivery teams to support both projects that were running concurrently. The complexity of Liverpool Lime Street disruptive access enabled our core teams to overlap and support each others where required. Both projects required our teams to work with life expired infrastructure, requiring the installation of new foundations, steel erection, SPS, complex wiring, switching, final registration and commissioning. Intensive planning, multidisciplinary delivery and the enhancing of key roles by Akona Concepts ensured project success for our clients, S&C North Alliance.
For the last 4 years we have been a preferred supplier for overhead line delivery support of S&C renewal sites on the East Coast Main Line (ECML). We have provided site planning, management and construction to fulfil a very extensive and demanding work schedule. Additionally, our team have also successfully delivered complex projects within tight client set time scales, an example of this being Fletton Junction. We are continuing to support the delivery of multiple projects on multiple sites throughout the ECML. These range from Newcastle to Kings Cross and have been delivered with a 100% success rate to date. Our team have also successfully delivered complex projects, including Fletton Junction, within very tight times scales set by the client. We successfully support the delivery of multiple sites throughout the ECML from Newcastle to Kings Cross with 100% delivery to date. Our current record has led to our delivery team being transitioned from S&C North Alliance to the current Central Rail Systems Alliance where we continue to support ECML renewals every week.
Akona Concepts engineering and delivery teams have been instrumental in the ongoing success of Leeds Station Capacity Project. We have been heavily involved in the development and planning of this complex and highly integrated staged overhead line construction project.
Leeds Station is the third busiest railway station outside of London, demonstrating our capable and competent workforce delivers within time constraints, ensuring the project remains on target for completion. Leeds Station Platform Zero to Three were successfully commissioned in Christmas 2020. This success has resulted in our teams continuing to work on the next phase of the project, platforms 4 to 6 change, due for completion in 2022.
This is another milestone in the wider Trans-Pennine Upgrade programme that is a major part of the drive to improve and upgrade transport in the North of England. It demonstrates our combined ability from senior white collar through to our delivery teams to work collaboratively on large multi disciplinary projects.
